Overuse Injuries
Overuse Injuries
Most overuse injuries are caused by a change in load, repetitive movements, poor biomechanics and/or incorrect technique. Overuse injuries often begin as a niggle which can gradually increase over time.
The pain can become more intense and more debilitating and the longer these types of injuries are left before assessment and treatment typically means that the recovery time is longer.
Our physiotherapist will be able to accurately assess your condition and provide advice regarding load management and graded functional restoration in order to get your life back on track as soon as possible.
Tennis Elbow
Tennis elbow is an overuse injury that presents as pain and inflammation on the outside of the elbow. This pain is usually worse when gripping or twisting such as using a nail gun or screwdriver.
At Geelong Performance Physiotherapy, we will perform a thorough assessment and gather a detailed understanding of your activities in order to determine the cause of your pain.
Using a combination of activity modification, manual therapy techniques, graded strengthening, stretching exercises, short term bracing and/or taping will allow you to be pain free and fully functional as quickly as possible.
Plantar Fasciitis
Plantar fasciitis is characterised by pain in the heel at the base of the foot. It is very common and is caused by the overloading of the plantar fascia. Many different factors can cause an overload to the plantar fascia.
Once the contributing factors have been accurately assessed and discussed Physiotherapy treatment can include:
- Low dye taping to unload the plantar fascia
- Deep tissue release to the plantar fascia
- Stretching of the plantar fascia and surrounding tissues
- Graded loading of the plantar fascia and surrounding muscles
- Orthotics
- Shockwave therapy
Achilles Tendonopathy
Achilles tendinopathy presents as pain in the achilles and heel region of the foot and can occur in the mid portion of the tendon or where it attaches to the heel. This condition oftens results from repetitive overload of the tendon structure.
Leaving this one to chance often leads to chronic tendon pain and dysfunction. At Geelong performance Physio we will perform a thorough assessment and gather a detailed understanding of your activities in order to determine the cause of your condition.
Using a combination of activity modification, footwear advice/prescription, manual therapy treatment and dry needling alongside graded strengthening of the calf muscles and tendon will allow you to be pain free and fully functional as quickly as possible.
